Canadian North – Seriously Northern
For over 80 years, Canadian North and its founding airlines have flown across northern skies and into northern communities. In May 1998, the vision, the dedication, the story and the dreams of northern people became those of Canadian North. The company became a truly northern airline through the acquisition by NorTerra.
Since then, Canadian North has grown extensively in equipment, personnel and services throughout its market areas. The company’s operations are conducted in three business units, passenger, cargo and charter. They fly to the Northwest Territories and Nunavut through their southern gateways of Edmonton and Ottawa, as well as from other major southern Canadian cities through their partnership with Air Canada. Canadian North also offers charter services beyond the North for industrial clients, sports teams, and large groups.

In 2007, scheduled passenger and cargo services were expanded to communities in the Kitikmeot. On April 1, 2008, Canadian North was proud to bring a new service to the seven communities in the Qikiqtani, with frequent connections to the Kitikmeot, Ottawa and Yellowknife.
Canadian North is involved in northern communities through sponsorship and support of special events, sports teams, school activities, community festivals and charities.
In addition to adding a 737-300 model to its fleet in 2011, Canadian North now operates nine 737-200 aircraft, four Dash 8 aircraft, as well as an additional three to four Dash 8 aircraft that it leases each day.
Canadian North is based in Yellowknife, NWT, with flight operations out of Calgary, Alberta and employing over 500 people throughout the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Alberta and Ontario.
